I’m one of those creepy people who puts ketchup on everything. I love it especially on my breakfasts, which are typically a combination of shredded potatoes and Wegmans “Rainbow Salad” hashed up and pan-fried in ghee. Mmmm. My brain thinks I’m just eating potatoes but in reality I’m eating cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and carrots, and I’m able to fool myself because I just slather ketchup on everything. Win!
Of course, finding a ketchup that contains no added sweetener or yucky ingredients is next to impossible. Enter in my girl Danielle at Against all Grain. Her recipe was the base and inspiration for mine, so credit where credit is due. Mine has a twist, though, in that instead of using dates to sweeten it, I use applesauce! That also allows this to come together very quickly, which can be handy if you’re like me and forgot you were out of ketchup 🙂
You will need:
- 1 large (12 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1.5T apple cider vinegar
- 1 2/3 cup water*
- 1/2t onion powder
- 1/2t garlic powder
- 1/2t sea salt
- 1/8t mustard powder
- 1/16t ground cloves
- 1/16t allspice
*depending on how thick you like your ketchup. I wanted mine to be the same consistency as store-bought ketchup.
You need to:
- Blend all ingredients until smooth.
That’s it! It’s a five-minute Whole30 ketchup, and it’s delicious. I can’t wait to have it on everything.
